Bowen Therapeutic Technique

Rose healed herself with the Bowen Technique

Bowen is a unique form of neuromuscular repatterning, working through nerves, muscles, and connective tissue. Unlike massage or other manipulations which force a change, Bowen simply assists your body to heal itself with profound and lasting results.

The Bowen technique is currently being taught and practiced world wide. The late Mr. Tom Bowen's system is unique - his methods have amazed and intrigued the many practitioners of all modalities who saw him or his pupils work. Equally fascinated, and deeply grateful, were the many thousands of patients he treated. It has been claimed in Australia, to be equal to, if not a better connective soft tissue therapy to any similar technique used in the world.

This technique involves a gently, dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue moves which realign the body and balance and stimulate energy flows. It can be used safely on any one from newborns, to the aged, infirm, and immobile. It has been used as a fast effective treatment for sports injuries, musculoskeletal problems, arthritic symptoms, migraines, asthma, etc...

For more than 40 years it has been used successfully to treat thousands of people suffering from a variety of illnesses. The gentle moves on soft tissue stimulate energy flow, empowering the body's own resources to heal itself. Orthodox and alternative therapists alike have been generous in their praise for this technique.

Bowen balances the body to allow it to heal. The work consists of a series of precise moves on specific points of the body. These moves are light and can be done through clothing. There are frequent and important pauses between each series of moves giving the body time to benefit from them. The technique uses positive moves that initiate a positive energy flow and negative moves that isolate this energy to a specific area. To do this, therapists must develop a keen tissue tension sense to correctly assess the existence of these subtle imbalances.

Bowen is an essential tool to facilitate whole body healing. This process addresses present physical symptoms and extends to emotional, cognitive and spiritual aspects as well.

Bowen allows the body to heal itself with minimal intervention in contrast to other hands-on disciplines where the therapist imposes the healing mechanism on the patient through the technique performed.
